Currently only three U.S. men have the Olympic Standard in the men’s javelin. Cyrus Hostetler has the top mark this year with 83.83m. Sam Crouser and 2012 Olympian Sean Furey both hit their qualifying marks last year (83.33m and 83.08m respectively).
Pending that no new athletes hit the Olympic Standard at the Olympic Trials (qualifying or finals) then Hostetler, Crouser, and Furey will make the Olympic Team regardless of their position/mark at the Olympic Trials.
IF a new athlete(s) hits the Olympic Standard at the Trials then the top 3 placers at Trials WITH the Olympic Standard will make the Olympic Team.
Be sure to look out for Riley Dolezal (80.42m) at the Olympic Trials. He has had a consistent good year and is very capable of hitting the Olympic Standard at the Trials.
Curtis Thompson of Mississippi State won the NCAA Championships last month and has a personal best of 81.03m.
Tim VanLiew has been rising to the top of the U.S. rankings the last couple years. He hit another personal best this year of 79.62m.
Sam Humphreys is the defending 2012 Olympic Trials Champion. He is more than capable of throwing far at Hayward Field as well as hitting the Olympic Standard.
Tim Glover has the biggest personal best out of all the active male javelin throwers (84.09m). If he can hit the Olympic Standard at the Trials he will make the Olympic Team. (*Did not advance to finals)
