4 weeks down, 42 to go!

I just finished up my first four weeks of training for the Olympic year and I have goosebumps! It’s starting off freaking awesome! I am throwing more than I have ever thrown this time of the year AND farther too! I couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming outdoor season.

I got released from the Olympic Training Center in October, but I continue to use the facilities and I am now living off-site nearby. Prices for food, rent, gas for my car, and worst of all facility use are taking a toll on my savings account while I am in dire search for a job in my field. I do website and graphic design, so if you, or somebody you know needs some work, I will give you a deal!

But just because things cost a lot of money doesn’t stop me from training as hard as I can. I have been throwing three times a week (with javelins), doing long hill workouts, lots of medball throws, working on my speed, building strength in the weight room, and most importantly staying healthy.

The most wonderful thing happened to me the last couple of months. If you have been following my journey you know that I tore my rotator cuff and labrum sometime in the last 18-24 months and it ruined my 2015 outdoor season. But the last couple of months have been PAIN FREE! That’s right, pain free. God works miracles!

It could be all the rehab that I do, and it could also be, in my opinion, the most powerful pain reliever in the world: Self-preservation.

It dawned on me, if I don’t get healthy (like right now), I am done for! Because if I am not healthy, I can’t throw far enough to make the Olympic Games this upcoming year. And if I am not healthy, throwing far, and making the Olympics, then all this training is for nothing.

I needed to be healthy in order to make the Olympic Games, and Self-preservation kicked in so that I could do what was necessary. I am feeling like a million dollars, even though I don’t have a dollar in my name!

My body has released the pain in my shoulder, and throwing has been so much fun this last month.

Normally come January (in Oregon), we start throwing again, and the body has a hard time connecting the timing and technique to throw even 50m. Everything hurts, its cold, and you doubt your ability. But right now I am consistently throwing over 60m every single day and making progress in each session.

This is going to be a big year, and I can’t wait to show you what I am capable of.
