There are sixteen U.S. women with the Olympic Standard in the shot put, but only three can make the Olympic Team. The top three women WITH the Olympic Standard at the Olympic Trials will make the Olympic team.

2012 Olympian Tia Brooks has gotten hot lately; throwing over 19m in her last two competitions. She has the second farthest throw in the world this year (19.73m) and has a really good chance of medaling at the Olympic Games.

But don’t count out American record holder Michelle Carter. Her outdoor season has been a slow start (18.72m), but when you take into account that she won World Indoors this year (20.21m) you will understand her focus has now shifted towards resting for the Olympic Games.

Who to Watch

It would be hard to predict who will make the Olympic Team, but Raven Saunders wowed the Hayward Field crowd once already this year by winning the NCAA Championships (19.33m).

Felisha Johnson has been right in the mix with Brooks and Saunders. Her season best is 19.26m.

Another dual event athlete is Jeneva Stevens; she has the Olympic Standard in the shot as well as the hammer. Will she make the double or focus her attention to one or the other?

Finally don’t forget about Jill Camarena-Williams (18.99m)! She is a two-time Olympian and now a mother. She definitely has what it take to make the top three.
