The U.S. has some of the best women hammer throwers in the world. We have a really good chance of getting a medal this year at the Olympic Games in Rio. The top three women WITH the Olympic Standard at the Olympic Trials will make the Olympic team.

Favored to win

Gwen Berry has been having an amazing year consistently throwing well and destroyed the competition at the Tucson Elite Classic by throwing 76.31m. I am sure current American record holder Amanda Bingson won’t let her win without a fight (71.90m). The two are our top ranked hammer throwers in the world and will surely be duking it out for first place at the Olympic Trials.

Who to watch

Amber Campbell has been having a stellar year; she matched her personal best of 73.61m at the Mt SAC Relays this year and will defend her Olympic Trials gold medal from 2012.

Deanna Price of Southern Illinois University just won the NCCA Championships in Eugene, Oregon this year. She definitely has the potential to keep up with the pros.

Jeneva Stevens is registered to double in the hammer and shot put. She has the Olympic standard in both events. Will she make the double or focus her attention to one or the other.
