Six Americans hit the Olympic Standard this year; making it quickly become one of the hardest teams in America to make. The top three men WITH the Olympic Standard at the Olympic Trials will make the Olympic team.

Jared Schuurmans was the only U.S. athlete with the Olympic Standard last year (66.10m). This has allowed him to focus his 2016 season on Olympic Trials.

Sam Mattis of University of Pensylvania has the biggest throw this season with 67.45m. He finished second at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

Or will it be Rodney Brown? He has a top mark of 66.00m and has been throwing well all year long.

Who to Watch

The big man Mason Finley may not have the biggest mark in the field (65.63m), but his last three competitions have all been over 64m; something no one else in the field can say.

The veteran Jason Young (65.67m) will definitely be one of the top contenders at the Olympic Trials. Young took last year off in preparation for a push at the 2016 Olympics and it seems to be paying off!

Tavis Bailey stopped throwing the shot put this year and put his focus on the discus; throwing 65.82m this year.

Finally don’t count out Andrew Evans (65.41m). He has been a consistent thrower at every meet in every possible weather condition.
